Here I've gathered what people most often wonder about – the materials, the craft, delivery and that seam in 3D prints. Can't find the answer? Get in touch at hej@stuffdust.se.
Products & materialsWhat's the difference between your materials?
I work with two methods. The Lövet-series kitchen products are CNC-milled from stave-glued solid oak – every piece gets its own grain. (If you'd like something in fully solid oak, that's available as a special order.) The 3D-printed objects are made in different plastics, and which one was used is always stated on the product page: standard PLA (a clean surface with a light sheen, my eight standard colours), silk PLA (glossy and shimmering – in two- and three-colour versions it shifts colour as you turn the object), matte PLA (completely matte, reflects no light) and PETG (tougher, handles heat and wear better).
My vase has a thin vertical line on the surface – is it faulty?
No. Every 3D-printed object is built up layer by layer, and on each pass the print head has to start and stop somewhere. That leaves a fine vertical line – a seam. On most of my forms it's hidden in the pattern or along an edge, but on some geometries it falls on an open surface and shows more clearly – especially on the glossy silk finishes. It affects neither durability nor function. Think of it like the grain in a wooden cutting board: a small mark that each object is made individually, not cast in a mould. If a seam ever sits really awkwardly – get in touch and I'll put it right.
Why does the vase shift colour when I turn it?
It's the two- or three-colour silk PLA that does it. The colour you see depends on the angle you view the object from – turn the vase and the surface shifts between its tones. So it isn't the light that changes the colour, but your angle to it. Single-colour silk PLA has a lovely sheen but doesn't shift like this. The effect is almost impossible to capture in a photo; it only comes alive when you hold the vase and turn it.
Are two pieces exactly alike?
Technically yes, but never in spirit. Wood grain, the play of the silk surface and small traces of the process make every piece its own.
Use & careCan I put water and flowers in the vases?
Yes. The vases are double-walled and hold water and flowers. Each vase is printed layer by layer, so if against expectations you notice a drop making its way through – get in touch and I'll put it right.
How do I care for the wooden products?
They're oiled by hand with food-grade hardwax oil and ready to use straight away. Wash by hand, never in the dishwasher, and re-oil now and then when the wood starts to feel dry – that way they'll last for years.
Over time the wood roughens a little, especially where you rinse it – the grain lifts and the surface feels rougher. That's completely normal. Just sand gently with a fine sandpaper (grit 180 or finer) before you oil it. The surface comes up as new, and a good deal of the knife marks from the cutting board disappear into the bargain.
Are the wooden products food-safe?
Yes, the surface is food-grade – cutting boards, snack bowls and butter boards are made to be used.
Ordering, price & personalisationCan I have my own text or a name engraved?
Yes, on every product except the vases. On the wooden products the text is engraved into the wood, the mini crates can carry your own text on the sides, and the name-texts are the product itself – built entirely from your text. How much text fits varies by product, and the price follows the amount of text.
Can you make something completely custom, not in the range?
Absolutely – that's half the point of StuffDust. Tell me your idea via Tell me about your idea, and I'll come back with a suggestion, a sketch and a price. A simpler custom piece starts from around SEK 800. A design fee of SEK 500 applies for a sketch and quote, which is deducted if you choose to order.
Do I get a discount if I buy several?
Yes – with two or more of the same product you get a 20% volume discount, calculated automatically in the order.
Delivery & paymentHow long is the delivery time?
Most things are made to order. You'll get a delivery estimate within 1–2 working days, and normal delivery time is 5–7 working days (vases in a special colour 2–3 weeks). In a hurry? An express order can be arranged for a 30% surcharge – get in touch before you order.
How do I pay?
Payment is made via Swish (a Swedish payment app) once you've received an order confirmation. Production begins when payment has gone through. (Card payment may come later on.)
What does shipping cost?
Free shipping within Sweden on all products.
